Summer 2010 Gerontology Book Drive

We have collected 40+ books for the new 4-year Gerontology program for Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya—the first Gero-Bachelors program on the continent of Africa!

The Let’s Group is a proud sponsor of this effort, and will advise our members of the progress this fledgling program is making. Here’s what we do know:

Between 2003 and 2004 Kenyatta University in Nairobi Kenya tried to obtain information on gerontology training programs in African universities. According to most respondents, no gerontology departments or programs existed, although students at graduate level could access some courses.

Africa is said to have two gerontological associations, namely, the African Gerontological Society, headquartered in Nigeria, and the South African Gerontological Association in Cape Town. However, the activities of these professional organizations, including membership, are not very widely disseminated or known in many parts of Africa.
